Author Interview with Marie F. Martin

Hello everyone, today I have the pleasure to be presenting an interview with Marie F. Martin…

What is your pen name?

Marie F Martin

Tell us about yourself?

I live in Montana, USA. I began writing in 1991 when one of my grandchildren needed family stories for a project in school. I wrote  book on family history called Grandmother’s Story. I enjoyed putting words on paper so much I decided to write a fiction story. This led to a total of 7 books. I have published Three and a fourth will be out this fall.

I learned my love for books from my mother who was a librarian.  I helped her after school and read many of the books in the small rural library.

What are your ambitions for your writing career?

To tell stories with honesty and humor at the human condition. I self promote them and have over 420,000 kindle downloads. I hope to continue with that.

When do you write, how much, and what part of the day is most productive for your “muse” to make her appearance?

My schedule varies. Some mornings I can write, other days I feel the need to do housework and errands first. Then I work on my manuscripts in the evening.

How many words do you write on an average day?

On the first drafts about 500 per day. rewriting is where the stories come alive and gain personality. this is much slower work. I don’t take word counts during this time.

Which authors inspire you personally?

John Grisham, James Herriot, Kent Haruf, Fannie Flagg

What genres of books have you written, or are you planning, and can you tell something about them without giving any spoilers?

Thriller, Suspense, Mystery.

Maternal Harbor is a thriller about four expectant mothers meeting at an OBGYN clinic and become friends.  Then two of them are dead and the third is on the run protecting the infants.

Harbored Secrets is a  psychological mystery base on the life of a young girl and how yeas later discovers secrets of my her mother did what  she did.

Ratham Creek is a suspense. It starts with a grizzly attack and ends with a lovers’ spat, in between Arianne is a target.

Where do your ideas come from?

From my daily living. I raised four children so I knew about child birth and protecting babies. My mother and father told me stories of the prairies and I incorporate their memories into my books.

Why do you write? And when did this decision happen?

I am compelled to write. Try not to and clam retirement. Then an idea grabs hold and won’t let go until it is on paper.

How many words do you write on average day?

300, sometimes more, some times less.

Who are your favourite authors and genres when it comes to reading for leisure?

I like coming of age stories, mysteries, and suspense. I don’t read like I used to because I belong to two author critique groups and keeping up with their section to edit seems to eat into time for reading for pleasure. I like Carol Oates, Fannie Flagg, Billie Letts, Mary Higgins Clark

Who designed your book cover, and what inspired you to get it designed in this way?

Karri Klawtier. I would write her a synopsis and she would give me choices. She does really nice covers.
